The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is a global algorithmic programming competition where college students from all over the world form teams and compete together. It is one of the most authoritative college-level programming contests and attracts more than 50,000 students from over 3,000 universities every year.
Honors in ICPC are of great importance in the application for both job opportunities and postgraduate programs. Although many new subfields of Computer Science have emerged, data structures and algorithms remain the most fundamental and important skills of all programmers.
Therefore, the NYU Shanghai ACM Student Chapter aims to create a community where developers can freely discuss problems with data structures, algorithms, or even programming skills and algorithmic thinking in general. Additionally, developers who are willing to participate in ICPC can receive professional training provided by ICPC experts, and find other developers sharing the same interest.
Since 2023 Fall semester, Prof. Chunyun Xiao from ECNU has become the ICPC coach of NYU Shanghai. 3 24-hour Coding Challenges were hosted, which received great popularity among the students.
During the winter break of 2023, the ICPC program hosted a C++ programming series, provided valuable self-learning materials for both beginners and experts, and hosted an online discussion forum to recap the fundamentals of C++.
Meanwhile, two teams from NYU Shanghai competed in the EC Final and Huawei Challenge at Shanghai University and won significant honors.
In the upcoming 2024 Spring semesters, the ICPC program is going to host another series featuring Data Structures and Algorithms, including. Every week, we will organize everyone to compete in Codeforces, and special office hours will be provided for participants in this program.
On the other hand, workshops featuring ICPC-related topics will be hosted. The upcoming one will look into the nature and applications of bitwise operations, as an extension of the contents of bitwise in CS courses.
So, whether you are an expert in algorithmic programming or a beginner, an enthusiast of the ICPC contest or a seeker of knowledge, we all look forward to having you as a part of our program!
